Parliamentary question - E-009666/2013(ASW)Parliamentary question
E-009666/2013(ASW)

Answer given by Mr Barnier on behalf of the Commission

The Commission is currently reviewing all pending infringement proceedings and complaints in the area of gambling services. In its communication ‘Towards a comprehensive European framework for online gambling’[1], adopted on 23 October 2012, the Commission announced that it will accelerate the completion of its assessment of national provisions in the pending infringement cases and complaints and take enforcement action wherever necessary. Following the adoption of the communication, the Commission services contacted the Member States against whom infringement cases and complaints are open[2] and requested the legal and (updated) factual information necessary for the assessment of compatibility of national gambling rules with EC law. The Commission is now finalising its assessment and will take necessary action in due time.
